iAsk a Mexican! Columnist Hangs Up Sombrero
Gustavo Arellano, author of the nationally syndicated and controversial iAsk a Mexican! column, announced in this week’s edition that he’s calling it quits. From the column:
It’s no longer necessary to explain Mexicans to Americans because Mexicans are Americans. Gracias for all the fights, the propositions of sexy time explosion and the slugged-back tequila shots after book signings, but there’s a little ranchito in Zacatecas waiting for me and a barefoot muchacha ready to cook dinner. Vaya con Dios, America, and always remember: Order the enchilada-and-taco combo TO GO.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the column, but I did thoroughly enjoy how much it pissed off Eugene’s progressive crybabies (or, as Arellano would call them, “PC pendejos“). Adios, Mexican. It’s been a fun ride.

As a student of color it’s not guerra’s job to explain mexican’s to you just his job to call you racist

Good riddance. The Weekly needed that space for Sally Sheklow.

Did you know the Eugene Weekly is starting their own online personals service? It’s going to called Wink & Kink. If it’s half as good as the personal ads they run now, it will be a comedy goldmine.

By the way, there’s also this which includes a short blurb from Arellano, an editor at OC Weekly!
Do we have a weekly here?

Personally, I can’t believe that they caved like that and got rid of the column. I mean, what would life be like with people decrying everything under the umbrella of PC’dom? It would suck, that’s what. I think that the column handled the critiques well, but I guess there are too many people complaining?
Seriously, I don’t understand it, and I’m even the first-born American son of immigrants! Maybe I’ll write the Weekly and ask them if I can write an “Ask an Irishman” column. There are a lot of myths and b.s. stories out there surrounding the Irish, and the story of the Irish coming to America is similar to that of the Hispanic-Latino community. hehe
