Friendly Public discussions

The Co-Chair of OSPIRG wrote this shameless plug for yesterday’s ODE letters to the editor:

To start with, there are tons of great causes to get involved with such as all the student unions, political groups, and/or environmental causes. Groups like the Multicultural Center, OSPIRG, or the College Democrats would love to have your support or maybe just your signature.

The Commentator decided it needed to respond:

We agree that extra-curricular activities add to students’ well being, but we encourage students not to participate in the unethical management that is perpetrated year in and year out by groups like those listed by Hough.

The Commentator is a pathetic excuse for professional journalistic work. The staff’s warped view of the world, coupled with their rude manner, serves as an example of writers who should never have been given a pen. Truly, the fact that the Commentator is an ASUO funded program is a blemish on the U of O.

    Drink!

  3. Miles Says:

Looks like someone from the Insurgent or the Emerald posted.

    IP time!

  4. CJ Ciaramella Says:

    First of all, DRINK!

Second, we don’t truck much with “professional journalistic work” in the first place, so your criticism is kind of misled to begin with.

Third, if you think we have a warped world view, you should check out some of the other ASUO funded publications on campus, like the Insurgent. At least we have some slight grasp on reality.

Alright, so we are kind of rude. Please accept my sincerest apologies.

  5. Ossie Says:

Speak for yourself CJ, could any unprofessional journalist write this?

  6. Jan Says:

” … serves as an example of writers who should never have been given a pen.”

Ah yes, because censorship is so much better!

  7. Jake Says:

We don’t even use pen. They won’t give us anything sharper than a pencil. They’re afraid we might hurt someone with our common sense.

  8. Timothy Says:

I only write in blood. Don’t worry, it’s not my blood.

  9. Vincent. Says:

Speaking of which, have any of you guys seen those clowns down on 13th St. handing out “revolutionary socialist literature” whilst defending North Korea, Iran, and China, demanding “free abortions on demand”, and identifying with Spartacus?

    Classic!

  10. leftie_man Says:

Here is a typical Conservative viewpoint that is nothing short of pure hypocrisy. Conservatives claim to be “pro-life.” Therefore, they do not believe that abortions should be an option. Fair enough…that at least holds true for a “pro-life” viewpoint. However, Conservatives also support the death penalty. So…you don’t want to kill a fetus, but you find it necessary to kill some poor fool who didn’t have enough money to hire a good lawyer. The primary Conservative fault is that you consistently seek to set an agenda for national morality. There is no need to criticize individuals for possessing varying opinions. What is needed is tolerance…even of communists. After all, according to the right wing Evangelicalist movement, it is God who reserves the right to judge humanity. We do not need to judge/punish each other. What is needed is tolerance, acceptance and support of those who are different from us. All disputes will one day be revealed.

  11. CJ Ciaramella Says:

Wow, you’ve really got us pegged. Yep, we’re a bunch of rightwing evangelists. You really hit the nail on the head. A bunch of moral crusaders, that’s us. You’ve never actually read our magazine, have you?

And yes, there is a need to criticize individuals for possesing varying viewpoints. It’s called “debating.” Just because you have the right to an opinion doesn’t mean you’re immune from criticism. In other words, I have to tolerate your stupid, inane babbling, but can call your babbling stupid and inane all I want. See? In case you still don’t understand, maybe this will clear things up.

Oh, and Vince, Spartacus was totally awsome.

  12. Jake Says:

You know what’s an inane debate–abortion. No matter what you say, no one will ever change their mind. Instead, lets talk about how big a dick Brad Pitt is for leaving Jennifer Aniston.

  13. leftie_man Says:

Yeah…but that happened like 2 years ago. And besides…Brad Pitt is rich. THE END!!!

  14. Ossie Says:

Jake: way to get leftie to show his true pathetic colors.

Hey leftie: “The primary Conservative fault is that you consistently seek to set an agenda for national morality.” No, you are wrong.

We love America, but we can give a shit about an agenda for national morality. Do you know what an agenda is? It is a vague outline for a group of people that plan to congregate. Let me put it in a reference you can understand.

If you go to a frat party; not just a frat party, thee frat party. I’m talking girls in cages, kegs of jungle juice and hired security so any freshman can get in. Better yet, if you go to a meeting of directors’ for OSPIRG. Or perhaps a gathering of the Eugene Weekly Editorial Board. But that is beside the point. Ask the same question to the whole populace of one of those congregations and you will discover most the answers seem recorded, forced, vague or inane.

So when you start saying things in public like, “What is needed is tolerance…even of communists,” we will assume you are a product of some larger body of incoherent babble. But hey, thanks for stopping by, we’re always looking for some good spew.

  15. Timothy Says:

The state shouldn’t kill people, but fetuses have it coming. Little bastards.

  16. leftie_man Says:

    Hey Ossie…Fuck off!

  17. Jake Says:

The Oregon Commentator does not support the random postings of random salvia advertisements

  18. Sho Says:

And therefore it is now gone.
