In the opinion of the Oregon Commentator Editorial Board, the student inside the Duck costume should be proud of executing such a tasteful and well received stunt. There’s nothing like some good ole tomfoolery to unite the crowd. Not only did you show the nation that Duck Football means business this year, you earned a great chunk of press coverage in our bid for a National Championship. Over 300,000 hits on YouTube, nice! Being included in the AP wrap-up for the Fresno State beat down, well done. Not to mention the in-game appearance on the jumbotron from the press box. The crowd loved it! Now if Bellotti would only regrow a mustache, we'd really be in businness.

The OU athletic department should be embarrased for only giving a one game suspension to the mascot.

Wait, wait, Oklahoma has a duck now? I'm confused.

To "Assault? Hardly Says": First off, interesting name. Secondly, "neutral" is a British term meaning you're not really a supporter of either team.

The duck was raining haymakers on the cougar. If that happened in the stands or outside the stadium, there's no question that he'd be arrested. Given that the duck was not arrested, he shoudl consider himself lucky. The OU athletic department should be embarrased for only giving a one game suspension to the mascot. If a player had engaged in similar behavior, I'd hope that they'd be given a far harsher punishment.

As a close friend of the individuals who are the duck I want to make sure people know that when two mascots "fight," 99 percent of the time it is planned before hand. This WAS the case with this fight; however, the punching and the tea bagging, while it was a bit over the top, was a result of the testosterone that takes over a males body when 1) your team is winning the season opener on your home turf, 2) you are performing in front of 50,000+ spectators, and 3) approximately 3,000 of those spectators are fellow students who are rooting you on. Listen to the film. The crowd goes wild.

I agree that the punching and tea bagging appeared to be over the top, but you have to remember what those mascot heads are made of. Ever punch a stuffed animal? Yeah, the guy in the suit had no intention of assaulting the other guy. They love their jobs and although they do get carried away sometimes, they prefer to plan every move before the fight takes place, but every so often that testosterone will kick in and improve takes over. They are people in fluffy suits. Give 'em a break.

Ok, whoever is named Neutral needs to change their name because that was not a neutral statement. You can say what you want, but don't label your writing as neutral when you obviously have an opinion.

I'm a big Duck fan, but I have to say I'm a little ashamed of the freaking idiot inside the costume. It's completely his fault that he let rage get the best of him. I feel a little bit of pride that he defended "our house" but he could have just done a little harmless shoving and left it at that.

On that note, though, I am a little surprised at the strong feelings here. Assault? Explusion? It's a mascot fight, for god's sake. Yes, some kid made a mistake, but he can learn from it. In the grand scheme of things, it wasn't the end of the world.

Whoever Wubba Wubba is: rock on, dude.

John: "Your support for inane actions like this give UO fans a bad name…maybe you should loosen up your belt and pull your head out!"

Haha, I almost shot beer out of my nose! "Give UO fans a bad name." Priceless. Yeah, we wouldn't want to ruin our sterling reputation. You know, there's a reason other teams don't like to play at Autzen and Mac Court, and it's the fear that they could be viciously teabagged at any moment by a drunken fan or mascot. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Duck fan, you're lame...doing pushups after scoring is by no means an exclusive to the Ducks, not even close...there were a number of schools doing it long before the Ducks thought to give it a try! Your support for inane actions like this give UO fans a bad name...maybe you should loosen up your belt and pull your head out!

That was incredibly hilarious. I'm proud of our mascot for stepping up and protecting our "honor". No mascot can come into our territory and do push-ups after scoring. That is a Duck trademark! And for those that didn't think it was funny, loosen up the belt around your shorts and your tucked in t-shirt!

I think the person's behavior inside the Duck mascot suit has done a tremendous disservice to the University of Oregon. I would hope that the loyal fans, alumni, cheerleading and athletic department staff would have great feelings of embarassment and shame at this fiasco. I don't think a week's suspension of the mascot's attendance is the appropriate action...I believe that the individual responsible should be permanently banned from any further participation whatsoever in Oregon athletics, and a formal apology be made to the University of Houston and its mascot. The acts of the person in the Duck costume are uncoscionable...I would perhaps even consider his expulsion from the University entirely for the shame he has brought to the University and its fine students, faculty, staff and alumni, not to mention all fans of Oregon athletics.

Just like a UofO Duck, just a dumb goon beating up on the little guy. Like any thug I bet that mentality doesn't leave the safety of Eugene and the protection of their own fans. I cant wait until the Pac 10 rips into you hooligans.

While this debacle seems comical because the participants were wearing costumes, the Oregon mascot should have been suspended FOR THE SEASON for committing an assault. It's amazing that the Cougar wasn't injured seriously -- clearly the Duck had no concern for his welfare. If the combatants were in street clothes, I have no doubt that the Oregon mascot would have been charged criminally for his actions. In fact, I believe that would really be the appropriate outcome of this fight.

Just to be clear, I'm not a Houston fan (though I'm not really a big fan of either team, I'd lean toward supporting Oregon), but I think that the Duck completely crossed the line.
