Vote for UO cultural advancement / hip hop and blunts
An online vote will determine five stops on an upcoming Talib Kweli tour. The College Demand Competition is being put on by Eventful.com, one of the largest growing marketing ploys for musicians, where people demand music acts and speakers to come to their area. Facebook also has a hand in spreading the word.
“Some of my favorite shows of all time have been at colleges so when Eventful brought this to my attention I immediately became interested, especially since a lot of college kids have been hittin’ me up about playing at their university. This gives them the opportunity to make it happen for themselves. “
The University of Oregon is currently in forth place with 1299 demands according to the site - the UO is also the fourth largest demanding college throughout the website. I have yet to find any details regarding how arrangements would be made with the winning universities, or if the show would be free for the students and/or the university.
In a related contest, a commercial is out for a contest where the Dave Mathews Band will come to the one college that has the most votes via text. The Oregon Commentator requests that no one from the U of O waste 25 cents on this due to our (my) strong belief that DMB sucks. Thank you for your cooperation.

I think we should petition to get Varg Vikernes to appear at the UO once he’s released from jail in spring ‘08.

YES!
I am a big fan of Talib, and I also respect him greatly because he’s one of the few artists (of ANY genre) that really pour themself into their work, and Talib is also very insightful and aware.. One quote from his website “No one likes me just because I’m ‘conscious’, if they tell you that, they are lying. People like me because I am conscious and they think I sound good.”

P.S. that quote came from here.

Hip-Hop Throwdown
A Team Entertainment presents the Hip-Hop Throwdown - a unique opportunity for a currently unknown artist to be selected for a guest spot on the upcoming Capone album. The album will be released on SMC Recordings and have national distribution through Fontana, which is a subsidiary of Universal Music & Video Distribution. Hip-Hop artists of all kinds are encouraged to submit. The spot can be for a guest MC or for a producer to do a beat. The artist selected will be the artist who has the best fit. Every submission will be reviewed by Capone, Will Bronson (SMC Recordings), George Robertson (Interscope Records), Raydon Coleman (A Team Entertainment) and Liv L ‘Raynge.
