f-theliberalsapedia

Conservapedia, “the trustworthy encyclopedia” that fights the good fight against the uber-liberal bias of Wikipedia and Google, was featured in the L.A. Times on Tuesday.

“We don’t make false claims of neutrality, as Wikipedia does. We have certain principles that we adhere to, and we are up-front about them. Beyond that we welcome the facts,” it says on the website. This all sounds great, until you realize that those certain principles spawn from the Christian right-wingers.

We should make a Jokapedia, where every entry is satirical and snarky as possible.

  2. T Says:

That already exists, actually. (Note: It’s not called Jokapedia, though)

  3. Vincent. Says:

Well, it’s just so much more convenient to have an online database stuffed with your own version of the truth and the “-apedia” suffix attached to it than to have to go out in the real world and deal with the fact that sometimes, the facts don’t necessarily match your beliefs.

Usually, though, we call these sorts of things “echo chambers”. “Trustworthy encyclopedia” works too, I guess…

And say… you guys remember that old old joke that says the more a country advertises in its name how democratic it is (Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea… German Democratic Republic…), the less democratic it is in reality?

I wonder if that observation holds up for the “conservative encyclopedia you can trust. The truth shall set you free.”

They’re trying pretty hard, aren’t they?

Sean, I believe the Encyclopedia Dramatica is what you seek, although it seems to get exponentially less funny by the minute …

Sean, I belive the Encyclopedia Dramatica is what you seek, although it seems to get exponentially less funny by the minute…

  7. Sean Says:

    People’s Democratic Republic of Kalifornia.

  8. Vincent. Says:

    Now you’re getting it!

  9. Blaser Says:

“Harlem is a district of Manhattan in New York City; it is named after the Dutch town Haarlem.”

I think I learned something from conservapedia today. With such detailed entries, wikipedia better get its shit together, or they’ll start losing some business. My favorite though has to be the entry for Hickman County, Tennessee:

“Hickman County is a county in Tennessee.”

    Too much information!

Maybe, one day, conservapedia will only contain four errors per scientific page! Watch out, NATURE, Wikipedia is COMING!

Sean, I believe this jokapedia you seek is the Encyclopedia Dramatica, although it seems to get exponentially less funny by the minute…

The best Wikipedia parody is “The Encyclopedia of Stupid”. Here are a few entertaining entries*:
