Alum Watch: Agitation
I am certainly not the only OC bloghead who loves Radley Balko’s The Agitator. Now, for a limited time only, our own alumnus Mark Hemingway will be sharing guest blogger duties at TA, while Balko suns himself in beautiful Buenos Aires. Hemingway has written hilarious and informative pieces for the Weekly Standard and elsewhere. Good luck at The Agitator, Mark… we’ll be watching.

At the risk of redundancy: for folks who are not currently familiar with Radley Balko’s work, this is very, very awesome.
And while we’re on the subject, let us not forget that the Insurgent was sucking back when Mark Hemingway was around, as well. (That almost counts as institutional memory.)

I thought you were going to link to Balko’s Agitator post about Dan’s (aka Danimal) OC wine review, in which he said he was surprised that Dan was not making bukko* dollars as a comedy writer in Hollywood (as opposed to bukko dollars as a lawyer in the hills of Oregon).
Congrats to Hemingway, a person I’ve never met. If he got a job at Reason (even freelance), it would make him the third OC alum to do so**, after Ed Carson — who served, in the mid-’90s, as a staff writer — and Eric Pfeiffer. Pete and I hold the honor of being incapable of securing internships there. They were very kind in their email telling me that they had decided to “no longer “pursue [my] application” though.
* Did I spell that correctly, Miles?
** Unless I’m totally wrong about that.

You’re right, I should have. Here it is.
Times change, though: in contrast to my earlier post on the subject, Balko has now sunk to seventh on the list of Google results for ‘”dan atkinson” oregon’.

Buku, bukoo, bookoo, buckfutter…it matters not.

Heh, now when that wine review gets brought up, I’m glad I already have a job.
