OLCC Director Drives Drunk, Resigns
The director of one of the most despicable government programs in Oregon got caught red-eyed five days ago and has now resigned:
[Teresa L. Kaiser] was arrested Saturday night by Portland Police for driving under the influence near the Ross Island Bridge in Portland, said spokesman Detective Paul Dolbey.
Kaiser’s blood alcohol level was reportedly .16, twice the amount an adult driver is considered legally drunk in Oregon.
“Due to circumstances that I deeply regret, I am resigning as executive director of the commission,” Kaiser wrote in the e-mail.

Good job on the potentially libelous headline.

Er, was she driving drunk? If not, why did she resign?

Because she was charged with drunken driving. That doesn’t exactly mean she’s guilty.

If it’s indeed libel, then she can take my ‘92 Civic. I don’t recommend parking it in Portland and it needs new struts, but I’m sure she’ll at least enjoy the cupholders. I do wonder, however, if she will also be concerned with the police faking a breathalyzer and her body becoming possessed by a rogue, resignation-forcing ghost. Damn libelous ghosts… when will they stop forcing resignations from innocent people?

I would hire a lawyer right away if I were you, Ian. This has multi-million dollar lawsuit written ALL OVER IT.

Didn’t Kelley Wirth have a law degree? I’ll bet she’s looking for work.

How about if we change the headline: OLCC Director is Asshole, Resigns. I think that’s probably more accurate.

Meghann:
OLCC Director is Public Figure, Ian Posts Allegation Without Knowledge of or Reckless Disregard for Falsity.
I think Ian’s okay here; it all depends on how completely he cares to cover his ass. Tyler, on the other hand, is really okay.
All I have to say is, if the OLCC’s paternalistic regulations couldn’t prevent this from happening, what are they good for?

Revenue generation!

No, you’re thinking of their taxes and monopolies.

I was thinking of the fines from their draconian enforcement regime.
