A quick <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Ellen+Furstner%22&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official" rel="nofollow">Google search</a> reveals she is a "parent and community advocate" from Marcola (and has no business endorsing a Eugene mayor candidate) and attends various substance abuse related events. Hey Ellen: Get a life and MYOFB. Criticize us all you want, but keep in mind that it's not your job to parent everyone at the University. You can't expect students to behave like adults while you treat them like children. It seems she endorsed Kitty Piercy for mayor.

I would argue for making Critical Reasoning a mandatory course for all incoming freshmen and new students. Among other things, the class (assuming it exists now as it did when I took it however long ago) involves dismantling letters to editors, taking a magnifying glass to the logical errors therein, and generally learning to live happily without paying heed to the pseudo-moralistic proclamations of cretinous windbags like Furstner. I'm definitely not complaining, though. She's exactly the sort of enemy we need-- one who can only raise our profile.
