I did not know Bruce long, but was impressed by the honesty and the strength of his convictions. So few of us stand up and speak out for what is right and wrong out there/here. In his own way, and within his own limitations, he was intellectually honest and forthtright. More than he won't be forgotten, he will be remembered for all this. May you all have a memorial "Bruce" moment when you think and speak out.
The good news for him, he will not have to deal with the Bush League any more.

Bruce's memorial is this Saturday from 5pm - 8pm at the Veterans Hall on Willamette and 16th. Alas, SPJ is that same night in Seattle so I can't make it. But y'all should go, ya hear?

All right Melissa, if it takes the mention of girls, then here is my toast to Bruce, all of the things I said in my last post, plus the "God I love Asian women" comment you insist is necessary. I thought a comment about Bruce would have been better without it, but whatever. God I do love Asis and Asian women. Where's my beer?

Bruce Miller. One of the few people from my memories at the UofO that are, mostly anyway, positive. He will be missed indeed. Not only was he banned, he actually had the courage, conviction and wherewithall to challenge it and compel the idiots in the ASUO to let him back in. You really should look that up. The old guy actually got a governor's order against the ASUO reversing their expulsion of him. I have a copy of it somehwere on my hard drive, but it's impressive. I will get a stone in memory of the man. Shalom.

There are few who worked as hard for as many people as Bruce Miller did. Refusing to back down from injustice that he saw or excuses in budget cuts for education, he endeared himself to many in the community as a tireless advocate for education and students, myself included. While his efforts may have caused some to be turned off toward him, they cannot say that he did not push them to do what was right and what was just. There is no question that his support and presence will be missed in Lane County.

The Greeks didn't write eulogies, they simply asked if the man had passion; there is no question that Bruce had that.

I only met Bruce Miller once, but his energy and genuine concern were unmistakable. If student government officials took their jobs as seriously as Miller urged them to, this University would be a far better place.

Rest in peace, Bruce.

My Bruce Miller expose is here:

http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~ocomment/ocarchive/oc01_02/oc3_01_07.html

The last paragraph was sort of satire, but I suppose it works as an epitaph.

God Speed...

I had my share of run-ins with Bruce, mostly when he came up to the Emerald office to tell me he thought that South Eugene High School's newspaper was better (or to give me a news clipping of some other college paper winning an award). But I have to appreciate a man who sticks to his convictions. And only somebody who truly saw the inherent corruption in ASUO could be banned from its office, as he was quite a few times.

During my campaign, I had a chance to talk with Bruce about things ranging from the Jewish Center, The Commentator (respectfully), the current ASUO, and other issues.

He cared quite a bit for the U of O, and the working of the student government.

He may have been a slight bit annoying, but truly I hope that someone else can take his place to keep the ASUO accountable (like I kept saying.)

This is indeed sad news. Despite his constant annoyances at either the OC office or when I was at work at the Law Library he was still a good man with a good heart. He didn't want to do anything but fix everything.

Plus the ASUO loathed him, which always made the meeting interesting.

R.I.P. Bruce.

Efficient?! How about we start with responsible and accountable?

I'm sure Bruce will be the guardian angel for his favorite UO football coach. Best to Bruce, good journey.

That is sad. For all the times Bruce annoyed the hell out of me, he was a good guy to have around. If only because he managed to annoy the ASUO more, and that's something I have to respect. May the angels carry you home to a land of efficient student government, Bruce.
